AD REVIEW: THE LITTLE OWL SOLIHULL

[AD-Gifted]- Our meal was kindly gifted in return for a review. My review is honest and my own views and opinions.

This evening we headed to The Little Owl in Solihull, it's on Bickenhill Parkway, so super close to the airport, International rail station and the NEC, so a great location if your in Solihull or surrounding areas and looking for a little pub for food and a few drinks.

The Little Owl is our local Vintage Inn pub, they boast about their burning log fires and beautiful beer gardens. They serve hearty pub favourites as well as a seasonal menu so there is something for everyone. They also have a great selection of drinks, even their own Cask Ale. They also do Sunday Lunch so if your after a traditional roast then check out your local Vintage Inn.

We pulled up and it's such a lovely looking pub, I can't wait to head back in the summer and have a few gins in their beer garden. It's a very pretty pub and inside didn't disappoint either. It is so cosy and rustic! The log fires and brickwork are lovely, even the chairs and artwork on the walls were just so charming.

We ordered drinks first, I had a Pink Gin and Lemonade and Clint had a Pint of Doom Bar which is one of their Cask Ales.

We then had a look at the Menu, as well as a main menu they have daily specials and also offer a Lunch and Dinner time set price menu so be sure to head on over to their website and check out their offers. They also have a Childrens menu and Vegan Menu.

I ordered the Wagyu Burger and skin-on fries. The Wagyu Burger is made from Premium beef and served in a Brioche Bun with Salsa, mixed leaf and horseradish served with onion rings! It was an impressive burger. It was so tasty and the horseradish was lovely!! You can create the perfect burger for you as they have a good list of add on's for the burgers.

Clint opted for the Lasagne, (surprise, surprise) he loves a good Lasagne! and this one ticked all of his boxes. He said it was delicious! He basically scraped the bowl clean! It comes with Triple cooked chips and is a really good portion size. It looked so good! He also said his Doom Bar Ale really complimented the food.

We didn't have starters so that we would have room for deserts! There was a really good list of deserts full of your usual pub favourites. I had the chocolate brownie, and Clint had the Banoffee Pie! Both looked amazing and were really well presented and good sizes. It was lovely and rich but not too rich! The Banoffe Pie looked lovely and Clint really enjoyed it! If your not one for a big pudding, why not order a hot drink with a mini pudding?!

Overall we had such a lovely evening at The Little Owl, the atmosphere was really nice, it was chilled and their was a really nice vibe! The food was great and it is such a stunning pub. The staff were all really friendly and our server was so helpful and offered recommendations. I really want to go back for a Sunday Lunch as it looks fab!! I also think we may spend a few afternoons in the summer chilling in the beer garden! Would defo recommend!

FOOD REVIEW: THE HEAD OF STEAM BIRMINGHAM

We were kindly invited along to The Head of Steam in Birmingham on Wednesday night for their press launch night. Located on Temple Street it's in a fab central location, just up the road from the local transport links and around the corner from The Bullring, Selfridges and Grand Central.

The Head of Steam has a very impressive drinks menu, there's pages and pages of beers from all around the world, cask ales, cocktails, ciders, spirits and soft drinks. I worked my way through the cocktails, they were lovely. I had the Cherry Lollipop which is a mix of Disaronno, Midori, Lime and Cranberry, it was super sweet and fruity, it was amazing. I've never had Disaronno in a cocktail before but it's one of my favourite spirits. I also had a Louisiana Rum Punch which is a mix of Old J Cherry rum, blue curacao, passionfruit puree, pineapple and lemon juice, it was so fresh and summery, it reminded me of holiday. I think the cocktail prices are really reasonable and I think they were quite strong which is always good in cocktails. As I mentioned above they had a huge book of drinks so if cocktails are not for you they have a huge range of other drinks. Clint was actually spoilt for choice and didn't know what to go for so he just asked for an American beer, he was given Motorhead Road Crew which is a pale ale and he said it was good, and tasted a bit like a light beer and he really enjoyed it.

They have a really good variety on the food menu, as well as the main food menu they do Breakfast and Brunch which is served till 3pm, I don't know of many places that serve breakfast that late, it's usually around 12pm but I love breakfast food and loveee brunch so i'm always drawn to places that serve a late brunch. They also offer a selection of sandwiches, wraps and light bites, perfect for lunchtime or early dinner. They also do Pizza's, burgers, hot dogs, pies and much more. I had the BBQ pulled pork stone baked artisan pizza which was gorgeous, i'd say Pizza is up there as one of my favourite foods. The pulled pork was really tasty and the base was lovely, the sauce was very tomato-ey and fresh. The pizza was a really good size, we shared some onion rings and could'nt finish it, I left a slice of pizza as I was stuffed!! Clint had the 12" Chilli Dog which was topped with a 3 bean chilli, it was a really good size and it looked great and came with fries so again was a really good portion size.

I have a sweet tooth and there was a few things on the dessert menu that tickled my taste-buds so we got the Trio Sharing board and picked the Salted Caramel and Chocolate Torte, Strawberry and Rhubarb cheesecake and the Profiteroles with Butterscotch Syrup. We expected them to be smaller portions of the puddings but they were full size, it was huge so it's such a good value for money, you basically get a dessert free. The Torte was a little bit rich for me so I only had a little bit but it was really good, my favourite pudding was the cheesecake, it was really light and fluffy. I wasn't too sure about the Rhubarb but it was lovely very fresh and not overpowering at all. The Profiteroles were soo good, the cream was really fresh and light, they were lovely and it was unusual to have them with butterscotch but it was really nice.

Overall we had a lovely time, the venue is gorgeous very clean and looks really impressive! There's lots of different areas so you can go for just drinks or go along for a whole meal. It would be a great place to go as a group. You order at the bar and this works well when there's a group as you can just go and order and pay for your own. The staff were incredible, we had the best time! Every member of staff were lovely and couldn't have done more for us, they made sure we always had drinks and even when we asked for a little break before we ordered puddings they were happy to leave us to it. It's dog friendly and child-friendly so don't let that put you off. It had a really good vibe and atmosphere and we will definitely go back and we will bring Amelia along with us. They had baby changing facilities and highchairs so it's baby friendly. We both had a lovely night and it was nice to have a night off, have a drink and a catch up and it was such a lovely launch event, we had a fab time. Thank you to Head of Steam for having us.

LIFESTYLE: CAFE ROUGE CROQUE MONSIEURS AND GIN BLOOMS

We recently went along to Cafe Rouge in The Mailbox Birmingham to try out their iconic Croque Monsieurs and Gin Blooms.

The Croques are a regular on the Cafe Rouge menu but not something that you really hear much about! A Croque is a classic grilled Emmental Cheese Sandwhich on sourdough with Bechamel sauce.

They have 5 Croques to choose from, the have the original Monsieur and Madame and the NEW Chicken Club, Hot Smoked Salmon and Portobello Mushroom.

We were lucky enough to try 4 out of the 5 Croques and we had lots of Champagne and Gin and frites too!

The Croques were sooo good, it was lovely to try all of the different flavours. It's just a sandwich but it's grilled and covered in cheese and creamy bechamel sauce (SO GOOD!) My favourite had to be the Chicken Club, it was really lovely tender chicken. The Portobello Mushroom one comes with Goats Cheese, Baby Spinach and a drizzle of Truffle Oil, it was really good! It's not something I would order usually for myself but I would order that again it was so tasty!

We got to try a few different Champagnes with the food which tasted really good and really complemented the food. We also got to try their new Pink Gin Blooms which were lovely, i'm not really a big Gin drinker, it's not something I would usually order but it was really nice and refreshing and it was a nice sunny day so went down very well.

Overall it was such a lovely event, we got to try some lovely food and met lots of lovely people.

Thanks to Cafe Rouge for the invite and for having us.

LIFESTYLE: HOW DO OUR EATING HABITS DIFFER BY REGION?

Britain is a nation of foodies, with 66% of UK adults describing themselves as passionate about food and drink. It comes as no surprise then that 50% say they are passionate about home cooking and 53% of millennials eat out at least once a week.
Brits spend a small fortune on food – whether it is takeaways and restaurants or luxury food from the supermarkets. On restaurant bills alone, the average Brit spends around £44 per week. But what does our money get spent on? Designers of modern kitchens , Harvey Jones, takes a look at the UK’s eating habits by region.

Takeaway lovers
According to a survey by Payment Sense, the average Brit spends around £9.75 on eating out or takeaways for themselves at least once a month. Annually, this works out at £117 per person!
Whilst Bristol is named the Takeaway Capital of the UK with a reported 279 takeaway restaurants, Leeds appears to be the greatest lover of the takeaways. 77% of Leeds folk admit to having at least one takeaway a month.

This love of ordering in isn’t reflected across the whole Yorkshire region however. Less than 25 miles away, people in York don’t dine as regularly on takeaways, with only 25% of them ordering a monthly take out.
Chinese appears to be the favourite cuisine too – a favourite across the whole country. Only 3 out of the 30 cities questions didn’t crown Chinese as their favourite takeaway – and of all respondents asked, 35% voted Chinese as their favourite. This trend is mirrored between male and female respondents too.
Indian takeaways follow closely in second place with 24% of the votes – and it stole the crown as the number one favourite in Aberystwyth, Coventry and Wolverhampton.

Eating out
According to The Sun, the average Brit can spend around £288,000 in their lifetime eating out at restaurants, which many people claim is because they are simply too lazy to cook at home.
Whilst Millennials are expected to eat out more than any other demographic, the average Brit now eats out twice a week with pub grub steeling the title as their favourite option. 18-29 year olds spend double the amount of other demographics on eating out – with an average spend of £88 per week!
London is the city of eating out according to The Chronicle, with the capital consuming the most Indian, Chinese, Thai, fish and chips and pizza meals at restaurants than any other city. The South East and Northern Ireland aren’t far behind the big city though, whilst Scotland appears to be the region that eats out the least.

Birmingham is also known as the Curry Capital with 43% of Brummies claiming curry restaurants are their favourite, and 34% of Londoners seem to agree. Glasgow prefers authentic Spanish tapas (14%), while 14% of Edinburgh folk loving Sushi.
Pub grub is one of the most popular choices in the UK – and Liverpudlians couldn’t agree more; 49% would choose traditional pub grub.

Home cooking
With busy work schedules and family life, dinner time at home has become far less formal and structured than previous decades. In 2017, just over 20% of British families said they sat down to dinner together once or twice a week, and one in five have their ‘family meals’ whilst sat in front of the television. However, some people prefer to cook their own meals at home, as they can control their own ingredients (49%).
According to Statista, 64% of people enjoy cooking, whilst 55% describe cooking as something they have to do but don’t. There has also been a 10% increase in the number of people preparing meals from scratch at least once a week from 2005. But which regions are most likely to cook homecooked meals?

Judging by how much London, the South West and Northern Ireland eat out, we can assume that they are the regions that are least likely to stay home and cook meals. However, Scotland, Wales, the North West and North East were the regions that appeared to eat out the least, leading us to the assumption that they are more likely to stay home and prepare home-cooked meals more often.
The kitchen, for many, has become the heart of the home meaning we now tend to spend more time there. Now that open-plan living is on the rise, cooking a meal doesn’t have to be a lonely task; you can prepare a family meal in your kitchen whilst catching up with the family.

CHRISTMAS: PRESTIGE HAMPERS

I have kindly been sent this amazing hamper from Prestige Hampers to feature on my blog. I don't know what it is about hampers but I associate them with Christmas, I don't really get hampers any other time of year. I usually get a hamper from work and Clint has actually got a hamper this year too nothing like this one from Prestige Hampers though.

This is the Happy Christmas Basket it's a really decent size and packed full of goodies. They basket is lovely, it's a great quality and you could use it again and again. The handle makes it perfect for picnics or you could use it around the house for decoration, I actually use a basket like this to store things in my bathroom like bath bombs and shower gels so it looks tidy.

The basket is full of lots of amazing brands and products. There is a really good selection of products and variety. This is a non-alcoholic hamper so it's perfect for everyone. I love the little lemonade and ginger beer, the bottles are really cute.

Inside theres, tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolates, cake, Christmas pudding, and popcorn! It's just jam packed with lots of amazing treats.

I think hampers are a great gift for employers to give to their employees because you can't really go wrong with a lovely hamper. I also this would be a lovely gift for my Grandparents as I usually struggle with what to get them but I know they would eat everything in here so it would make a great gift. I think hampers are a nice gift idea and great if you struggle to buy for someone. This one looks very luxiourous aswell because of the lovely basket.

There's still time to order before Christmas so head over to Prestige Hampers to check them out, they have a range of different hampers and other products to choose from and they vary in price so go on over and have a look.

REVIEW: BROADWAY CASINO RESTAURANT

A few weeks ago, Clint and I were invited along to Broadway Casino in Birmingham for dinner. We were really excited to go along and I thought i'd share our experience with you .

We arrived and headed to the bar and got ourselves a drink and then walked round into the restaurant.
The Restaurant is modern and clean with lots of seating. Plenty of room for big groups as well as smaller tables for couples and a few booths too. It was very comfortable and cosy, you can see the casino floor and they have a piano too.

We were greeted by Roberto, the Restaurant manager who went through the menu with us and told us the specials and helped us with our food choices. The Restaurant is an authentic Italian eatery and Roberto has a wealth of experience in the restaurant industry as he's worked in Top hotels in Italy
before coming to Birmingham over 20 years ago.

We started with some bread and olives which was really tasty, Roberto told us stories all about the bread, and we ordered our mains.

I was torn between pizza and pasta and the menu has so much to offer, there's alot of choice and everything sounded good. They also have a seafood section and mains such as steaks and chicken.

I opted for the pizza in the end as I really wanted to try it and Clint went for Lasagna. I chose the Pollo Parmigiana pizza which was soo good. They base was thin and classic, the edges were crispy but the actual base was soft and so tasty. The chicken was really nice quality and tasted really nice, and well seasoned. The Mozzarella was perfect, it was such a tasty pizza and I really enjoyed it and managed to eat most of it (I filled up on bread)  I liked everything about the pizza and I would happily order it again.

Clint's Lasagna was massive, such a big portion. It was really meaty and looked very impressive. He actually said it was the 'best Lasagna he's ever had' Clint really likes Lasagna and orders it alot when we eat out so I was very impressed that this topped all others.

We shared a pudding as we were both very full as our mains were so big! We opted for the Monterosa Cheesecake which was sooo good! It's a sponge cake with cream cheese and strawberries. It was really light and refreshing, not too heavy and was just perfect after our big meal. I actually ate most of this (sorry Clint)  as it was very delicious!

Overall we were really impressed with the whole experience. I would have never thought of going to a Restaurant in a casino before. The service from the whole team and lovely manager Roberto was amazing, they were all very friendly. The food was perfect, I couldn't fault a thing! It was very tasty and the whole menu is very affordable and a great value for money. You get amazing quality and the prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere was very cosy and relaxed and we would definitely go back again.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat in Birmingham for an occasion or just a really nice Italian meal I can't reccommend Broadway Casino Restaurant enough. There's something for everyone and we had a great time. The location is great as it's not far from Broad Street where Birmingham's main nightlife is.  Broadway Plaza also has a Cinema and Bowling and more so there plenty to do you can hit up the Casino floor after a good meal, it's perfect for everyone.

Here's a link to their website, where you can check out their menu and book a table

EVENT: CAFE ROUGE #SUMMERTASTEADVENTURE

I was recently invited along to Cafe Rouge in Birmingham for their Summer Taste Event! The event was all about their new summer menu and I was lucky enough to head along to the event and check out some amazing food!

First of all the weather was incredible, it was really sunny and warm so as we walked along the canal to the venue was so lovely, the Mailbox was buzzing and everyone was having such a good time.

We was offered a drink on arrival and went through into the room where the event was being hosted. The french doors were open and there was flowers and balloons everywhere so the vibe was fab really welcoming and summery.

They started by introducing us to the chef who talked about the new menu and we got to have some appetizers. I didn't have any of these but Clint and everyone else seemed to enjoy these, they looked fab!

I tried a few of the new mocktails which were perfect for the summer. My favourite was the Rouge Blush Mocktail which was really good!  They were also fixing up Gin Blooms but as i'm pregnant I couldn't try these! They looked fab though, really refreshing.

For starter I ordered the Croquettes De Legumes which was so good! We've actually had this before but it's just so good and a really nice, light starter.

For mains I had the Crepe Au Four which is a new dish on the menu, It was a white creamy sauce dish covered in a crepe and baked, inside was lots of mushrooms. It was really tasty, I think it would taste better with chicken inside too, if this was an option it would be so good!

We got to sample a selection of deserts which were all amazing, I really enjoyed the Lemon Posset which was so good!

The event was really good, everyone was chatting and really friendly. There was so much food and drink everywhere and it all tasted so good! It was such a lovely event and so chilled and a lovely way to spend a gorgeous summer evening. Check out Cafe Rouge in the Mailbox in Birmingham, it's on the canal and has fab views, they have outside seating which is perfect for these warmer nights we've been having.
