BEAUTY: JAMES BUSHELL HARVEY NICHOLS BIRMINGHAM REVIEW

I was recently invited along to the James Bushell salon in Harvey Nichols Birmingham to go along to have my hair done. I went in for a consultation and patch test and spoke to a stylist about what I wanted to achieve and how we could go about this and I got booked in.

The salon is located inside Harvey Nichols at The Mailbox in Birmingham, It's a nice little salon and is within the beauty hall so you can have a little browse at the make up and other beauty products before or after your appointment. Harvey Nichols also offer other beauty services such as nails, brows and waxing so you can have a whole pamper day. I saw people having their brows and nails done before having their hair done.

We started by going over what I wanted my hair to look like. I explained to Ryan my stylist that I wanted to go a more lighter blonde. I haven't had my hair coloured for such a long time so most of my hair was my natural colour which is a dark blonde. My hair was very dry, brittle and damaged from heat tools. I wanted a natural blonde but not too yellow, I wanted a more ashy toned blonde. I wanted to go for a balayage technique as I like having darker roots as I find this easier to manage. This also adds blonde to my hair but keeping it natural. For my hair cut I just wanted a trim, I like the length of my hair but it needed tidying up. I like being able to put my hair up for ease so I wanted to keep the length for this reason. Ryan explained that he would make my roots a little darker by painting on a colour to my roots, and then using foils would apply the blonde to the length of my hair, he used Olaplex with the colour to repair and prevent any further damage to my hair. I was very happy that Ryan understood what I wanted and he started.

He painted on a darker colour to my roots, The colour of my roots was fine but the darker colour creates more contrast with the blonde and my natural colouring is quite warm but the darker shade is more ashy and cool so works well with the blonde.

He then went on to add the colour to the length and went all around my head with foils and applied the blonde colouring. He had already told me about Olaplex at the consultation and we both agreed that it would be perfect for my hair to restore my hair and prevent any further damage. I wanted a nice blonde that was natural and not to warm or yellowy. I wanted a nice ashy light blonde that looked natural.

After the colour was applied I was popped under a lamp for a little while and had a nice cuppa and a flick through some magazines. It was nice to just chill out and have a little me time. I love being a mum but it is very full on and it was lovely to just relax and not have to worry about Amelia for a couple of hours ( she was off mooching the shops with her daddy)

After being under the heat lamp for abit I was taken over to get the colour washed off. This is a little area around the corner. I love getting my hair washed by someone else. They applied a toner to my hair and left this on for 5 minutes and then rinsed with a shampoo and conditioner.

I was then taken back round to my seat and Ryan discussed my hair cut and we decided to dry my hair first as we'd discussed potentially putting in a few extra layers to thin my hair out abit but I decided against this in the end because my hair goes quite wavy when I have layers and right now I just want my hair to be manageable and easy. He dried my hair and chopped off all the dead ends, this made it look so much healthier.

After cutting my hair Ryan asked how i'd like my hair styled, I wanted it curly as I love having my hair curly and i'd had it curly for my before picture.

I am so so happy with how my hair turned out, it's actually perfect and exactly what I wanted. I love the colour and i'm really happy with the length. I didn't want alot cut off but I wanted it to look fresh and like i'd had a hair cut. The colour is lovely and i'm really happy with the balayage and how the colour blends together, it looks very natural.

Ryan was just lovely, he is really friendly and attentive. He listened to what I wanted and I got exactly what I asked for, he is very very good at his job. He made sure I was happy the whole time and couldn't have done more. He kept asking me if I was excited to see the final result which was lovely. I felt like he was really excited to see the end result and see my reaction.

I can't fault anything, the salon was lovely and every member of staff was helpful, friendly and polite. The salon is in a great location and had a good flow of customers. The salon felt busy but not too busy, it had a nice atmosphere. I would definitely go back and I have already recommended the salon to my friends and family. The prices at the salon are abit more than I would usually pay to get my hair done but I was so happy with the outcome that I will be going back.

James Bushell have salons around Birmingham, aswell as the Harvey Nichols store they also have a salon in Edgbaston and Solihull. They have a huge range of services such as balayage, extensions, Olaplex and Bridal so check them out if you are looking for a new salon.

REVIEW: RUSH HAIR AND BEAUTY BIRMINGHAM

Last week I went along to the Rush salon in Birmingham, I was booked in for a treatment and blow dry. It's in a good location on Corporation Street, it's only a 5-10 minute walk from the train stations and bus stops in the city center.

I arrived for my appointment and was seated, Lewis came over and introduced himself and we discussed what I was having done and how I want my hair styled. I explained that my hair is dry and damaged due to colouring my hair and heat damage. Lewis explained that I would have the Kerastase Fusio Dose which is combination of intense treatments mixed together.

I was taken though into a dark room with the sinks in to have my treatment done and my hair washed. The room was relaxing and I love having my hair washed. I had my hair washed and then the treatment was put on a left on for about 10- 15 minutes and a hot towel was wrapped around and then he rinsed my hair.

Then we went back through into the main hair dressing area and added some Kerastace products to my hair to prep it before starting with the blow dry. I wanted a natural wave/ curl to my hair. Lewis started to dry my hair and it looked so good, really nice and clean and soft.

My hair was left feeling really soft, smooth and clean. My hair has been more manageable and it looked so much cleaner and softer. I am hoping to get my hair cut and coloured in a few weeks as it's been a while since I had it done. After my visit to the Rush salon in Birmingham I would definitely go back and I've have had a patch test done so if I decide to get my colour done there then I can. They have some fab offers too which you can check out on the website.

You can book an appointment or call the store, Rush have stores all over the UK so check out their website to find your local store.

REVIEW: CUT AND BLOW DRY AT FRANCESCO GROUP

I was kindly invited to have a cut and blow dry last week at the Francesco group salon in Birmingham. I was really excited to get my hair done, it actually ended up being a pamper day, I got my hair, eyebrows and my make up done.

I hadn't had my hair cut for a few months, probably about 4 months ago. I had it cut into a long bob as I wanted it to look fresh and healthy, I decided to have the same done this time because it felt like it was due a good chop.

We started by discussing what I wanted and got started. The lovely Grace was really cool and I felt very comfortable with her. She decided to go for a hydrating shampoo and conditioner as I use alot of heat on my hair and because of the cold weather. She also used a lotion on my scalp as i've had some dry skin from the cold. I love having my hair washed at the salon it always feels so clean.

Next she started cutting, she made it slightly shorter at the back so the length fell really nice at the front. She was really quick when cutting my hair but it looks so good! She used Luxe Oil on my hair and I had my hair blow dried straight. I like to have abit of texture in the ends so she used a texturising spray and some hairspray.

and tah dah...

i'm so happy with the outcome, my hair looks so much more healthier and thick again. It actually looks a different colour aswell which was weird, I think its because my hair is so clean. I was so happy with the service and i'd recommend the salon to my friends and family. I know i'll return again.

If you want to find out more about the Salon, opening times and prices visit the Francesco Group website here.

* I was kindly offered a complimentary hair cut and blow dry at Francesco Group Salon, I have been honest in my review. I have not been offered any additional compensation for this post.

REVIEW: SUPERCUTS COLOUR PACKAGES

I was invited along to Supercuts Great Western Arcade in Birmingham today to try out there colour packages. I originally wanted to go for a pink dip-dye style but as i've just got a new job and I don't start till next week I thought it would be better to go for something abit more natural.

The lovely Kat went through different colours with me and together we decided to go for this Ash blonde shade all over and then a lighter shade in the ends to create an Ombre effect.

She applied the all over colour section by section and applied the bleach and pastel toner in the ends. Then after 30 minutes washed off the dye. Kat used lots of lovely products on my hair including colour protect shampoo and conditioneing treatment, Redken extreme Anti-snap, Redken All Soft Supple Touch and Redken Heat Styling Duo Shield 07. It was so lovely getting to try out these amazing products, Kat showed me all the products she was using and told me what each product was doing and why she was using it.

Kat then blow dried my hair and straightened it for me, I'm so so happy with the outcome, it looks really natural, I love the colour. It feels so soft and clean and I think exactly what I wanted.
I felt my hair was looking brassy and had some harsh gold tones running through it.

I'm really happy with my new hair and I would go back to Supercuts to have my hair done again. It was really easy I just popped in 48 hours prior to when I intended to visit and got a skin test. This is a requirement when your getting your hair coloured. Then I popped in this morning and had to wait for like 10 minutes but I was basically seen straight-away.

Supercuts are a drop in salon so you don't even need an appointment, they can fit you in based on how busy they are. They have some amazing prices, Colour Slicing starts from £3.95 and theres a range of colour packages from £39.95 which is alot cheaper than most salons.

I very rarely have my hair coloured at the Salon, I do it myself at home but now I've tried Supercuts I would go back. I'm so happy with the outcome and the staff and service was excellent. I actually bought the staff at Supercuts Great Western Arcade a box of chocolates because I wanted them to know how happy I was with my hair and the service.

Have you been to Supercuts recently, what did you think?
