REVIEW: ESCAPE HUNT BIRMINGHAM - BLACKBEARD'S TREASURE

BLACKBEARD'S TREASURE LAUNCHES TODAY!
FRIDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER

We went along to Escape Hunt Birmingham on Wednesday for their press night to try out their new escape room game, Blackbeard's Treasure. Clint came along with me as neither of us have done an escape room before, we were super excited to take part and try the new room. I didn't really know what to expect, all I knew was that it was a pirate theme and that we would need to try and escape the room.

We arrived at the press event and had a glass of Prosecco and some nibbles before we went into the room.

We had to put all of our bags, phones etc into a box outside the room, which is then locked so you can't use your phone etc whilst in the room.

I won't go into detail about inside the room because I don't want to ruin it for anyone who's interested.

It was quite hard, as I said i've never done an escape room before so wasn't too sure what we were going to need to do. We got inside and just started by having a good sweep of the room!

It was really fun and I loved it! It was really challenging but in a fun, exciting way!

You can have as many clues as you like, we didn't ask for clues but was given a few as we went along which was really helpful and helped us progress through the room.

You get 60 minutes to complete the room and we managed to do it with 13 seconds to spare!!!!
The last 5 minutes were so exciting because we were rushing to try and complete the room.

We had such a lovely time and we definitely want to go again and complete one of the other stories!
I think we are both addicted to Escape rooms now and can't wait to do another one.

Games are auitable for players age 10 and over. Anyone under 16 must be accompained by an adult. Blackbeard's Treasure opens today, Friday 14th September costing £25 per person for groups of two or three, and £20 per person for groups of four to six. Book Now- www.escapehunt.com/Birmingham

FOOD REVIEW: THE HEAD OF STEAM BIRMINGHAM

We were kindly invited along to The Head of Steam in Birmingham on Wednesday night for their press launch night. Located on Temple Street it's in a fab central location, just up the road from the local transport links and around the corner from The Bullring, Selfridges and Grand Central.

The Head of Steam has a very impressive drinks menu, there's pages and pages of beers from all around the world, cask ales, cocktails, ciders, spirits and soft drinks. I worked my way through the cocktails, they were lovely. I had the Cherry Lollipop which is a mix of Disaronno, Midori, Lime and Cranberry, it was super sweet and fruity, it was amazing. I've never had Disaronno in a cocktail before but it's one of my favourite spirits. I also had a Louisiana Rum Punch which is a mix of Old J Cherry rum, blue curacao, passionfruit puree, pineapple and lemon juice, it was so fresh and summery, it reminded me of holiday. I think the cocktail prices are really reasonable and I think they were quite strong which is always good in cocktails. As I mentioned above they had a huge book of drinks so if cocktails are not for you they have a huge range of other drinks. Clint was actually spoilt for choice and didn't know what to go for so he just asked for an American beer, he was given Motorhead Road Crew which is a pale ale and he said it was good, and tasted a bit like a light beer and he really enjoyed it.

They have a really good variety on the food menu, as well as the main food menu they do Breakfast and Brunch which is served till 3pm, I don't know of many places that serve breakfast that late, it's usually around 12pm but I love breakfast food and loveee brunch so i'm always drawn to places that serve a late brunch. They also offer a selection of sandwiches, wraps and light bites, perfect for lunchtime or early dinner. They also do Pizza's, burgers, hot dogs, pies and much more. I had the BBQ pulled pork stone baked artisan pizza which was gorgeous, i'd say Pizza is up there as one of my favourite foods. The pulled pork was really tasty and the base was lovely, the sauce was very tomato-ey and fresh. The pizza was a really good size, we shared some onion rings and could'nt finish it, I left a slice of pizza as I was stuffed!! Clint had the 12" Chilli Dog which was topped with a 3 bean chilli, it was a really good size and it looked great and came with fries so again was a really good portion size.

I have a sweet tooth and there was a few things on the dessert menu that tickled my taste-buds so we got the Trio Sharing board and picked the Salted Caramel and Chocolate Torte, Strawberry and Rhubarb cheesecake and the Profiteroles with Butterscotch Syrup. We expected them to be smaller portions of the puddings but they were full size, it was huge so it's such a good value for money, you basically get a dessert free. The Torte was a little bit rich for me so I only had a little bit but it was really good, my favourite pudding was the cheesecake, it was really light and fluffy. I wasn't too sure about the Rhubarb but it was lovely very fresh and not overpowering at all. The Profiteroles were soo good, the cream was really fresh and light, they were lovely and it was unusual to have them with butterscotch but it was really nice.

Overall we had a lovely time, the venue is gorgeous very clean and looks really impressive! There's lots of different areas so you can go for just drinks or go along for a whole meal. It would be a great place to go as a group. You order at the bar and this works well when there's a group as you can just go and order and pay for your own. The staff were incredible, we had the best time! Every member of staff were lovely and couldn't have done more for us, they made sure we always had drinks and even when we asked for a little break before we ordered puddings they were happy to leave us to it. It's dog friendly and child-friendly so don't let that put you off. It had a really good vibe and atmosphere and we will definitely go back and we will bring Amelia along with us. They had baby changing facilities and highchairs so it's baby friendly. We both had a lovely night and it was nice to have a night off, have a drink and a catch up and it was such a lovely launch event, we had a fab time. Thank you to Head of Steam for having us.

LIFESTYLE: CAFE ROUGE CROQUE MONSIEURS AND GIN BLOOMS

We recently went along to Cafe Rouge in The Mailbox Birmingham to try out their iconic Croque Monsieurs and Gin Blooms.

The Croques are a regular on the Cafe Rouge menu but not something that you really hear much about! A Croque is a classic grilled Emmental Cheese Sandwhich on sourdough with Bechamel sauce.

They have 5 Croques to choose from, the have the original Monsieur and Madame and the NEW Chicken Club, Hot Smoked Salmon and Portobello Mushroom.

We were lucky enough to try 4 out of the 5 Croques and we had lots of Champagne and Gin and frites too!

The Croques were sooo good, it was lovely to try all of the different flavours. It's just a sandwich but it's grilled and covered in cheese and creamy bechamel sauce (SO GOOD!) My favourite had to be the Chicken Club, it was really lovely tender chicken. The Portobello Mushroom one comes with Goats Cheese, Baby Spinach and a drizzle of Truffle Oil, it was really good! It's not something I would order usually for myself but I would order that again it was so tasty!

We got to try a few different Champagnes with the food which tasted really good and really complemented the food. We also got to try their new Pink Gin Blooms which were lovely, i'm not really a big Gin drinker, it's not something I would usually order but it was really nice and refreshing and it was a nice sunny day so went down very well.

Overall it was such a lovely event, we got to try some lovely food and met lots of lovely people.

Thanks to Cafe Rouge for the invite and for having us.

REVIEW: BAD APPLE HAIR TOPSHOP BIRMINGHAM BULLRING

I recently went along to Bad Apple Hair in Birmingham for a treatment and blow dry! The Birmingham Salon is situated inside Topshop in the Bullring. It's a lovely salon, very clean and tidy and is nice and bright. I love the neon flamingo light and they had a huge TV screen and was playing some really good music. It was a really good atmosphere and I felt really comfortable and relaxed.

I went along to try out the Innoluxe V2 hair treatment, The treatment repairs and rejuvenates the hair.

'INNOluxe V2 penetrates through to the inner structure of the hair to covalently bond with the hair’s natural keratin. INNOluxe V2 creates ‘super strong’ hair bonds and also reconnects the sulphur bridges, truly turning back the clock to healthy hair.'

I arrived at the salon and was greeted by Jack and discussed what I wanted to achieve. I've recently had my hair done so I wanted a treatment to refresh my hair and make it look smooth and fresh again as it was starting to look dull. For my blow dry I wanted my hair to be curly, we decided on beachy waves which really excited me as I usually tend to have tighter curls.

We went over to the sinks and washed my hair and applied the treatments. The V2 treatment consists of two parts so after the first treatment had been on for 10 minutes he washed it off and applied the 2nd stage. It was really nice and relaxing in the salon, I had a cuppa and scrolled through instagram in peace (I didn't bring Amelia along, her daddy had her)

We then went over to style my hair, Jack applied a couple of products, one of them was the Innoluxe Elixir V2 which is a highly concentrated leave-in conditioner that reinforces the hair’s new strength and flexible proteins. With new heat-active proteins, the hair actually strengthens as it dries.

Jack dried my hair straight as I have quite frizzy hair and have a lot of fly-aways he then curled my hair using hair straighteners, he created nice loose curls. Once he had curled all of my hair he applied some more products these were all Bedhead products, he applied dry shampoo to add some texture and a little hairspray, the products all smelt sooo good! He used his fingers to brush out the curls so they looked more beachy.

I was so so happy with the finished look, i've never had beachy curls before and I was so happy with the finish. My hair was left feeling super clean and so soft. My hair actually feels really strong and healthy. I really liked the treatment and I feel like it has really helped my hair. I had a lovely time at the salon and would love to go back next time I get my hair done. I have actually been recreating the beachy curls and love it!!

BEAUTY: INTRODUCING RIMMEL LONDON'S NEW INSTA COLLECTION

I was so excited to receive these goodies in the post last week! Rimmel have released their new make-up range to get you Insta-ready! You will have no problem getting the perfect selfie now!

There's so many different products in the new range, contour sticks, setting powder, concealer palettes and much more. I thought i'd go through a few of the new products and introduce you to the new range. I have only used a couple of bits so far so will review them in a few weeks once i've given them all a go!

I have been loving the #Insta Fix & Matte powder, it works really well on my skin. I've been using it to set and mattify my foundation. It isn't cakey as it's a translucent powder. You can build it up easily and I don't need to retouch through the day.

I haven't tried the Contour sticks yet but I did swatch the light shade and it's a lovely warm toned shade and gorgeous highlight. They are very creamy and easy to blend out! Very excited to try.

I'm so excited to try the Fix & Go fixing spray as i've only ever used the Urban Decay All Nighter spray. This is a 2 in 1 primer and fixing spray which sounds so good! At £6.99 this is a bargain!! I hope its good! The packaging is fab and it's a decent size bottle.

The range also includes the #Insta Flawless skin tint, concealer palettes and a conceal and correct palette. The whole range is really affordable and on 3 for 2 right now at Superdrug so check it out.

EVENT: CAFE ROUGE #SUMMERTASTEADVENTURE

I was recently invited along to Cafe Rouge in Birmingham for their Summer Taste Event! The event was all about their new summer menu and I was lucky enough to head along to the event and check out some amazing food!

First of all the weather was incredible, it was really sunny and warm so as we walked along the canal to the venue was so lovely, the Mailbox was buzzing and everyone was having such a good time.

We was offered a drink on arrival and went through into the room where the event was being hosted. The french doors were open and there was flowers and balloons everywhere so the vibe was fab really welcoming and summery.

They started by introducing us to the chef who talked about the new menu and we got to have some appetizers. I didn't have any of these but Clint and everyone else seemed to enjoy these, they looked fab!

I tried a few of the new mocktails which were perfect for the summer. My favourite was the Rouge Blush Mocktail which was really good!  They were also fixing up Gin Blooms but as i'm pregnant I couldn't try these! They looked fab though, really refreshing.

For starter I ordered the Croquettes De Legumes which was so good! We've actually had this before but it's just so good and a really nice, light starter.

For mains I had the Crepe Au Four which is a new dish on the menu, It was a white creamy sauce dish covered in a crepe and baked, inside was lots of mushrooms. It was really tasty, I think it would taste better with chicken inside too, if this was an option it would be so good!

We got to sample a selection of deserts which were all amazing, I really enjoyed the Lemon Posset which was so good!

The event was really good, everyone was chatting and really friendly. There was so much food and drink everywhere and it all tasted so good! It was such a lovely event and so chilled and a lovely way to spend a gorgeous summer evening. Check out Cafe Rouge in the Mailbox in Birmingham, it's on the canal and has fab views, they have outside seating which is perfect for these warmer nights we've been having. FOOD: JAMIE'S ITALIAN BIRMINGHAM REVIEW

Last week we were kindly invited along to Jamie's Italian in Birmingham to check out their new menu. We headed into the Bullring and did a spot of shopping and then headed along to Jamie's to refuel!

I've never eaten at Jamie's Italian before so I was very excited to be invited along to review their menu. We arrived for our reservation and was greeted by a very friendly lady who told us our table was just being wiped down and said we could get some drinks at the bar or just take a seat. A couple of minutes later she was back and sat us down at a lovely table for two in the window with a lovely view of the Bullring and St Martins Church.

We were then greeted by Kiya who was going to be looking after us, she took our drinks order and went through the specials which sounded amazing. We had a choice of menus to look over, the standard menu and a lunchtime super lunch menu. We opted for the normal menu but the Super Lunch menu is very impressive with lots of choice and it's a great value for money.

I ordered a Berry Blast mocktail and Clint went for an Fresh Apple Lemonade, they were both very refreshing and looked impressive.

For starter we went for the Fantastic Fried Gnocchi which sounded amazing from the menu and neither of us had tried this before. We decided to share the starter and it was a nice size, not too much but not a small portion. It was so good! I kind of wish we ordered one each but I didn't want to fill myself up before my main. I would choose this starter again!

For main I went for the Carbonara and added some chicken. This hands down was the best pasta dish I have ever had in my whole entire life! It was so tasty! The portion size was very impressive and there was a good amount of meat and plenty of spaghetti. There was so much flavour, it was delicious. I had to stop myself making 'mmm' noises between each mouthful. It was beautiful and I will probably order it again next time we go because I enjoyed it so so much!
Clint went for the Porkies pizza which was a very impressive size! In Clints own words 'it went down a treat' he really enjoyed it. We shared some chilli fries which were so good! I dipped them in my pasta.

For desert we ordered the brownie, we shared this again as we were so full up from our main. The Brownie was served with Salted Caramel Ice cream and chocolate sauce. It was a little too rich for me but Clint really enjoyed it. It was soo gooey which was lovely and the Salted Caramel Ice cream was really nice.

The restaurant is gorgeous, the layout is good and there is a lovely atmosphere. I had a great time and will be going back to Jamie's in Birmingham again and would recommend it to my friends and family. The food was great and the service was exceptional, every single member of staff that we spoke to was friendly and professional. Kiya was very knowledgeable and an asset to the store, she was really friendly and checked up on us regularly to make sure everything was good! A guy (guessing a manager? ) had checked up on us too and told us our food was on it's way. After our food he came over to see how things were again which was lovely. Overall it was amazing, we had a great time and can't wait to go back. I thought it was going to be really expensive but I think the prices are quite reasonable and they also have an Evening Favourites menu, which is avaliable monday - thursday after 6pm where you can get 3 courses for £18.95 or the super lunch menu is 12- 6pm monday to friday, 2 courses are £10.95 and 3 course £12.95 which is a little more afforable.

** We were invited to review the new menu at Jamie's Italian and our food was complimentary. This review is honest and I have not been paid for this feature. We had such an amazing time at Jamie's that I will be going again.
